Laya Barak

Laya began her training in her hometown of Detroit Michigan in jazz, ballet, tap and hip-hop. She later spent many years at the Edge Performing Arts Center and Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles, training with some of the top choreographers and teachers around today. She graduated from Indiana University with a BA in Arts Administration Dance and Business. Laya danced, choreographed and was co-director for the Indiana based In-Motion Dance Company.

Since moving to New York Laya has done choreography for various recording artists in New York, Cyprus and Israel as well as showcased her choreography at performance venues around Manhattan. She has an instructional DVD available on and was also featured in the April 2009 issue of ELLE magazine on her career as a dancer, choreographer and singer. She has taught workshops and master classes around the US and abroad including Canada, Cyprus, Israel and Australia.

Laya is certified in the authentic Classical Pilates method in both Mat and Reformer/Apparatus. She has been teaching both Mat class and private reformer class throughout the city and has incorporated the Pilates method of core strength, alignment and increased range of motion in her approach to teaching dance class as well. She is also a certified Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
